As we get closer to Memorial Day, there is a sense of sorrow that is mixed with reverence that seems to pervade the air.
This sentiment is slowly working its way into the minds of people who stop to think about it.
On this day, we honor the brave men and women who served our nation in the armed forces and gave their lives in battle, so that future generations may live with the same rights and freedoms that we do.
As the warm sun casts its golden rays over the large fields decked with waving flags, we are drawn to the hallowed grounds.
Here, memories are cradled in the loving embrace of granite monuments and weathered tombstones.
As we go on, the spirits of those who have passed before us begin to weave themselves into our thoughts, pleading with us to honor and respect those who came before us for the sake of our responsibilities, our honor, and a better tomorrow. We are reminded, as we gather together in this time of loss, of the extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment demonstrated by those who have gone before us.
It is a moment to give appreciation to those who have helped us get to this point by making significant sacrifices and to think back on how our nation was founded.
While we are in mourning, we find solace in the fact that we are all human and that our relationships of friendship and family transcend several generations.
As a nation, we have come together as one today, unified in our determination to do all we can to respect the sacrifices made by our ancestors.
On this day of remembrance for those we have lost, we solemnly swear to carry on their legacy by toiling away unceasingly to incorporate their selfless acts into the very fabric of who we are as a country.
